Today is World Elephant Day. We celebrate an animal that is rooted in the culture and the history of India.

Strict wildlife laws protect them, yet their habitat disappears every day, leading them to survive in the most difficult circumstances.

Elephants in the wild in India lead one of the most disturbed and stressful lives when they leave the protected areas.

Today, a lack of fully in tact wildlife corridors results in this graceful, clever, and exceedingly beautiful animal existing in extremely precarious situations in highly fragmented forests.

To see the Indian Elephant in its glory in its true habitat is truly a sight to behold!

May their tribe increase, and may their homes be restored.

The Serengeti of India : Kaziranga Tiger Reserve.

A bit unfair to compare natural landscapes, however, the huge grasslands and marshlands at Kaziranga that are home to huge animals such as Indian Rhinceros, Asiatic Water Buffalo, and the Indian Elephant, help us draw such a parallel between the two.

Gold and silver are readily available in nature, we don't need to dig the earth for them.

A beautiful Grey Langur waits patiently for a few more minutes for the warmth of the sun to reach the canopy on a lovely winter morning at Kanha Tiger Reserve.

Moments like these are missed as we drive around, often single-mindedly, in search of the Tiger on every safari.

The Indian Jungle is highly fragmented, and rife with human activity. Moments of tranquility are a pleasure to behold.

The delightful Swamp Deer(Barasingha) is rarely seen in the forest habitats of Kanha. They are primarily grassland animals and are described as "graminivores" : having a highly specialised diet that consists primarily of grasses.

The protection of the grasslands is a key part of the management of the landscape of Kanha and loads of care and pride is shown by the Forest Department in this regard.

The Dhole is a strategic, beautiful, and well coordinated animal. Their bond is absolutely key to their survival.

Today, their population has absolutely crashed, and it's rare to even see pair such as these when, in fact, a little over a decade or so ago, huge packs could be seen.

To witness a live hunt is even more rare, as the most efficient hunter has now been reduced to hunting in the shadow of larger mammals, and has to stick to smaller prey as a result.

The Spotted Deer was valiant and gave them the run around for a long time, however, the Dholes were not ready to give up.

These whistling dogs are just the most elegant and beautiful animals to see on safari in India.

Central India is such an endearing landscape : the forests, the people, and the villages are all extremely special. These lands are home to the Royal Bengal Tiger, a humble predator that remains unconcerned with humans. It's power dwarfs ours, and it restricts it's powers for purposes that have served it well for millions of years.

Never over reaching, and maintaining harmony in its kingdoms, it is the apex killer, yet it dictates survival of all the other species(in our eyes at least). In reality, all organisms are interlinked and equally crucially.

If we stopped for a moment, we could learn a lot more from nature than we think we understand about it.

Tiger siblings honing their skills for rather serious battles ahead.

This male and female sub adult cubs are the surviving members of a litter of 5 cubs of a dominant tigress at Kanha Tiger Reserve.

The female, though smaller, doesn't get intimidated by her brother's big size and dominating behaviour.

The cubs keep their claws sheathed for now.
