The biological phenomenon of the mass blooming of the Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana) flower that takes place once in twelve years has once again arrived in the famed hill resort of Munnar. This time in the Lockhart Gap Region that is located 13 km away from Munnar.
Neela means blue in Malayalam language and Kurinji the local name of the flower. Thousands of travellers visit Munnar during this time to watch the rolling hills and the seemingly endless valleys bathed in the purplish blue. The last time Neelakurinji bloomed in Munnar was in 2006
