An Arctic Winter in Greenland- Some Stunning Pics from an inspiring Traveller Kaushik Shil !!!
How is arctic during winter? The question ponders me for long before we planned for this trip to view some of the most astonishing sights of Polar region. Greenland is still not a touristic place and immensely costly, only a few town has tourism infrastructure and whole island is around half of the size of India (though shown as a bigger land mass in World Map) and whole island only have less than 100 km of tar road. All the inhabitation of Greenland are around the coast and no one lives inside the big sheet of Ice covering whole Greenland mass which is largest continental ice field if you leave the poles. The country is completely dependent on Europe and North America for all the food production except fish which is abundant in Greenland due to long coastal area. A 2 hours flight from East Coast to West Coast will make you poorer by 70000 INR, (Its not a typograohic error, I mean it and faced it) and you have to plan it quite welll to survive the high cost. Usually season time is very short just July and August, most tracks are open for nice trekking, sea is completely clear of Ice and you can boat many places there but obviously cost is much higher. In Winter cost is less and as most of Greenland including some part of sea is frozen, you have to use Sled or Snow scooter to roam around. The Winter time is also great for watching Northern Lights which was another reason for us to visit this wonderful place. Lets picture do the rest of the talking and I hope you will enjoy this amazing landscape!
I took this amazing trip with 3 travel nomads Tiwari Brijesh, Nitesh Chhabra and Shriharsh Kaushik, it was such a successful trip and the group proved to be such an amazing group, we have already some ambitious plan set for 2017 November! You guys rock!
