An Arctic Winter in Greenland- Some Stunning Pics from an inspiring Traveller Kaushik Shil !!!

How is arctic during winter? The question ponders me for long before we planned for this trip to view some of the most astonishing sights of Polar region. Greenland is still not a touristic place and immensely costly, only a few town has tourism infrastructure and whole island is around half of the size of India (though shown as a bigger land mass in World Map) and whole island only have less than 100 km of tar road. All the inhabitation of Greenland are around the coast and no one lives inside the big sheet of Ice covering whole Greenland mass which is largest continental ice field if you leave the poles. The country is completely dependent on Europe and North America for all the food production except fish which is abundant in Greenland due to long coastal area. A 2 hours flight from East Coast to West Coast will make you poorer by 70000 INR, (Its not a typograohic error, I mean it and faced it) and you have to plan it quite welll to survive the high cost. Usually season time is very short just July and August, most tracks are open for nice trekking, sea is completely clear of Ice and you can boat many places there but obviously cost is much higher. In Winter cost is less and as most of Greenland including some part of sea is frozen, you have to use Sled or Snow scooter to roam around. The Winter time is also great for watching Northern Lights which was another reason for us to visit this wonderful place. Lets picture do the rest of the talking and I hope you will enjoy this amazing landscape!

I took this amazing trip with 3 travel nomads Tiwari Brijesh, Nitesh Chhabra and Shriharsh Kaushik, it was such a successful trip and the group proved to be such an amazing group, we have already some ambitious plan set for 2017 November! You guys rock!

Holy Trimbakeshwar Temple !!!

Trimbakeshwar temples is one out of the twelve 'jyotirlingas' dedicated to Lord Shiva. The extraordinary feature of the Jyotirlinga located here is its three faces embodying Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Rudra.

Temple boasts its architecture that belongs to the latter half of the 18th century and holding the structural influence of the Peshwas Empire. The entire black stone temple is known for its appealing architecture and sculpture and is at the foothills of a mountain called Brahmagiri.

The Trimbakeshwar Temple was initially built by Raju Balaji Baji Rao, one of the first rulers of the Maratha dynasty to establish the shrine. In the following years, it was further improved by other Maratha kings. The ancient chronicle of the Trimbakeshwar temple is closely associated to the origin of the River Godavari.

Holy Kailash Mansarovar ~ A Divine Journey !!!

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (KMY) is considered as final destination and most sought after pilgrimage for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains. However this Yatra or journey is having tremendous cultural significance apart from the abundant natural beauties of Tibetan High Altitude Plataeu. Those who follow my travels are aware Tibet is my favourite destination and among very few places in the whole world where I would like to return time and again. When we travelled there last time in 2013, I tried to go Western Tibet where Mt. Kailash is located but discovered it was extremely difficult if not impossible for Indian Passport Holders to make a trip Individually. After long research we developed a team to explore this part in 2014 and when almost everything was set we had to abandon the journey because few of our team members dropped out in last minute. You need a minimum of 6 people technically to go for this Yatra in case of Indian Passport Holders. So next I thought of preparing for the Yatra organized by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Govt of India. This is a pilgrimmage and China only allows Indians as Pilgrims to visit holy lake of Mansarovar and Mt Kailash and that has to be understaken in a group visa. MEA calls for for application from willing pilgrims under age 70 for the yatra every year and then select the final groups based on a lottery. I was lucky to get selected and I was selected in a batch that travelled through Nathula Pass of Sikkim, the road which was opened for first time in 2015 to any Non Chinese Passport Holder since 1950. For me it was not just pilgrimmage but also soaking myself in the beauties of Tibet and its wonderful culture

As you explore Indore's famous Sarafa Bazaar (Food Junction of Indore) One place you can't miss is 'Joshi Dahi Bada House' run by Mr. Om Prakash Joshi. The way he prepares the Dahi Wada is a treat to eyes as well, in true sense a performer. He will flip the bowl filled with curd without spilling a single drop followed by a magic show (Unique way of sprinkling four different types of Spices) along with some general anecdotes of wisdom. The foodie experience at Sarafa Bazaar and Dahi Bada at Joshi Bada House is a must do if you are a True Foodie !!!
