Location: Orchha
State: Madhya Pradesh
Orchha was founded in the 16th century by the Bundela Rajput chieftain, Rudra Pratap, who chose this stretch of land along the Betwa river as an ideal site for his capital. Of the succeeding rulers, the most notable was Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo who built the exquisite Jehangir Mahal, a tiered palace crowned by graceful chhatris. From here the view of soaring temple spires and cenotaphs is spectacular. Complementing the noble proportions of their exteriors are interiors which represent the finest flowering of the Bundela school of painting. In the Laxminarayan Temple and Raj Mahal, vibrant murals encompassing a variety of religious and secular themes, bring the walls and ceilings to rich life. Strewn around the area are the little shrines and memorials, each with its own poignant history.

The Papanasam Falls, also known as the Agasthiyar Falls, are located in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. This waterfall is formed as the river Tamravarani on the Western Ghats reaches the plains of Tamil Nadu. Like the Banatheertham Falls, the Papanasam Falls are perennial and best experienced during the winter. The head of the waterfall, at 125 ft., is the Kalyanitheertham Lake. A temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is built near this lake. The water falls from a height of 120 meters and are joined to the rocky surface of the Pothigai Hills. According to Indian mythology, a bath under the Papanasam Falls absolves all the sins and the waterfall derives its name from this. Predictably, the Papanasam Falls have now become an important pilgrimage centre for the Hindus.
