Four species of Barbets (out of 9 species which are found in India) can be seen in Sindhudurg district. This is one of them - White-cheeked Barbet – a species endemic to India. Nowadays white-cheeked barbet is highly vocal here in Sindhudurg and it can be heard with continuous Kutroo-kutroo-kutroo calls very similar to the call of Brown headed barbet. Sometimes it can be spotted perfectly camouflaged in the lush green canopy of the trees.

महाराष्ट्र राज्याचे राज्य फुलपाखरू असलेल्या या ‘ब्लू मॉरमॉन’ (Blue Mormon) फुलपाखराचा भारतात आढळणाऱ्या आकाराने मोठ्या असलेल्या फुलपाखरांमध्ये चौथा क्रमांक लागतो. याच्या अळयांचे मुख्य खाद्य असलेल्या ‘Rutaceae’ या कुळातील म्हणजे लिंबूवर्गीय झाडे उदा. लिंबू, माकडलिंबू, पपनस अशी झाडे मुबलक असलेल्या भागांमध्ये ही फुलपाखरे सहज दिसून येतात. सिंधुदुर्ग मध्ये फुलपाखरांच्या जवळपास 150 हून अधिक प्रजातींची नोंद झालेली आहे. या रंगीरबेरंगी फुलपाखरांचा खजिना पाहण्यासाठी आम्हाला संपर्क करू शकता .
