Happy World Lion Day !
Today, lions are extinct in 26 African countries, have vanished from over 95 percent of their historic range, and experts estimate that there are only about 20,000 left in the wild.

Lions are most significantly impacted by illegal bushmeat hunting and body part trade, conflict with local people due to livestock depredation, habitat loss and fragmentation and to a lesser extent by unsustainable trophy hunting.

5th October evening while we waited at Mukki gate to enter the park there was a torrential downpour . Heavy rains almost extinguished any hope we had of seeing a tiger. Most cars turned back from the gate which was the sensible thing to do but we decided to brave out the rain and enjoy the jungles anyways. 8 months of having done no safaris played a huge part in that . After making our way through the slush and muddy roads we came across some pug marks . That got our heart racing and we followed those pug marks almost expecting to see a tiger walking in the rain at every bend and turn on the road. To
Our disappointment the pug marks disappeared abruptly . After almost 2 hours of figuring out where those pugmarks had gone we came across some fresh scratch marks and the thick musky scent of a fresh scent marking but then again there was no sign of the tiger . As the rain got harder we decided to leave the park. A minute later all I heard was “Tiger , Tiger ,Tiger”. This beautiful Male
Tiger came walking out when we least expected him . With the light almost non existent and time running out we took a few shots of him before leaving him .

“ Tiger , Tiger , Tiger”- With Zone 3 having had no sightings for a few days we were prepared to enjoy a different part of the park with its scenic landscapes and do a little bit of birding . About 10 minutes into our drive we came across some beautiful painted storks and a couple of Magar crocodiles . Just as we positioned ourselves to take some shots we heard a spotted deer alarm call from a fair distance away. The alarm calls got pretty intense so we decided to check it out. As soon as we reached the spot we saw Arrowhead and her cubs walk down from a small hillock right in front of our car. We saw the family for a good 3 hours before heading back . You never know what the jungle has in store for you. Video coming up soon! .ranthambore .84

Botswana has been an revelation . There are few places in the world which are so pristine and magical . Having done a few safaris by car gave us an opportunity to enjoy a safari by helicopter as well and the experience was surreal. Seeing animals from the air gave us the opportunity to see the landscape and the animals from a different perspective .
