🐘🌿 More than an elephant encounter — it was a lesson in compassion.
At Kulen Elephant Forest, we didn’t just see elephants; we spent time understanding their stories.
These gentle giants have been rescued from lives of labor and tourism, and today they live in a protected forest where their wellbeing comes before anything else. No rides. No performances. No chains. Just a second chance at the life they deserve.
One of the most special parts of our visit was getting involved in their daily care. We helped prepare their nutritional meals, learnt about their dietary needs, and got to feed the ones who wandered over for a snack. Watching an elephant happily enjoy a meal you’ve prepared is a feeling that’s hard to put into words.
And then came the rain. 🌧️
As the skies opened up over the forest, we found ourselves getting drenched alongside these gentle giants, splashing through the mud and helping bathe them in the most natural setting possible. No staged experiences, no forced interactions—just a beautiful moment shared with animals living freely in their forest home.
What makes Kulen Elephant Forest so special is that every interaction happens on the elephants’ terms. We are merely guests in their world, observing, learning, and supporting a model of tourism that prioritizes rescue, rehabilitation, and respect.
Travel has the power to change perspectives. This experience reminded us that wildlife isn’t here for our entertainment—it’s here to be protected, understood, and celebrated.
And perhaps that’s why this wasn’t just one of our favorite moments in Cambodia.
