San Miguel de Allende is a 500-year-old UNESCO World Heritage city in the highlands of central Mexico - a bastion of colonial Spanish architecture where burros still traverse cobblestone streets to deliver milk and firewood.

Its UNESCO designation places it in the company of Venice, Florence, Salzburg and Prague as among the most historically and culturally significant cities in the world. Most Indian travellers have never heard of it. That’s about to change.

The sky here turns pink at dusk - specifically, a shade of dusty rose that the city’s sandstone cathedral seems designed to reflect. The neo-Gothic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, the highest building in the city, was reportedly designed by a self-taught indigenous architect from a picture postcard of a European cathedral. It looks like something from a dream you’ve had before.

We pair San Miguel with the Rosewood - the only hotel built inside the UNESCO historic district, crafted by local artisans to look like it has always been part of the city’s 16th-century fabric. Richard Branson bought this island at 28 for £180,000. 🏝️

The Amalfi Coast on Instagram: pastel houses, overcrowded ferries, a clifftop road with three lanes of traffic where the road was built for one. 🇮🇹

The Amalfi Coast we arrange: a private wooden gozzo departing Positano at 8am — before the ferries, before the tourists, before the coast belongs to anyone but you.

Here’s what that day looks like.

The captain — whose family has worked this coastline for three generations — cuts the engine at Li Galli, the private island archipelago where Rudolf Nureyev lived for 25 years. You swim in water so clear the bottom is visible at 15 metres.

Lunch anchored off a sea cliff between Positano and Amalfi. No restaurant. No reservation. A chef on board, fresh seafood, cold Falanghina, and silence except for the water against the hull.

Fiordo di Furore — a narrow fjord cut into the limestone cliffs, accessible only by sea. One of the most dramatic natural formations on the Italian coastline, missed entirely by everyone on the road above.

By the time the ferries have reached their first stop, we have already swum in three coves, eaten lunch in a fjord, and arrived at Capri from the water — the only way to arrive at Capri.

Same coast. Completely different Italy.

The French Riviera most people experience and the one we arrange are two completely different places. 🇫🇷

Most people do Saint-Tropez in August. Traffic from Nice airport that takes 3 hours. A beach club where you pay ₹15,000 for a sun lounger and share it with 400 strangers. A promenade so crowded you can barely see the sea.

Here’s how we arrange the Riviera instead.

Where we stay: The Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat — a peninsula hotel on Cap Ferrat with a seawater pool carved directly into the rock and breakfast served with the entire bay below. Not Cannes. Not Nice. Cap Ferrat — the peninsula where the old money actually lives.

What we do: Private wooden boat departing at 8am — before the Riviera wakes up — along the coast to Eze-sur-Mer. Lunch anchored off a cliff: fresh seafood, cold rosé, nothing but blue in every direction.

The afternoon: Up to Eze village by road — 400 metres above the sea, medieval stone streets, and the Fragonard perfumery where you can create your own fragrance with a view of Provence that has been inspiring artists for two centuries.

What we avoid: July and August entirely. We send our clients in May and September. Same coastline. Same light. Half the people. Approximately 30% less cost.

The Riviera the French actually use. We arrange it properly.

The largest fish on earth swam directly below us. It was completely uninterested in our existence. 🌊

The whale shark - harmless filter feeders that can grow up to 18 metres in length — migrate to the shores of Ningaloo Reef every year between March and August to feed on plankton and krill. Ningaloo is the world’s largest fringing reef, and one of the only places on earth where you can have a face-to-fin encounter with the world’s biggest fish.

Here’s how it works: a spotter plane takes off at dawn, scanning the surface for the distinctive shadow below. When one is located, the boat races to position. You enter the water ahead of its trajectory and wait. And then it arrives - slowly, silently, 12 metres of complete calm heading directly toward you at a pace you can keep up with, if you swim hard.

Recent data puts the interaction success rate at 97.14% during peak season. But no statistic prepares you for the moment the shadow becomes a shape and the shape becomes the largest animal you have ever been in the water with.

We arrange this. The window is March to August. The shoulder season through September and October offers fewer crowds with consistently high encounter rates.

Nobody knows exactly when the crossing happens. That’s the whole point. 🦁

The Great Migration is one of nature’s greatest paradoxes: timing is absolutely vital, but there is no way to predict the exact timing of the animals’ movements. No river crossing is scheduled. No crossing is guaranteed. The wildebeest decide — and they decide based on rain, grass, instinct, and something science still can’t fully explain.

Each year, over 1.5 million wildebeest, 400,000 zebra, and 300,000 gazelles trek from the southern Serengeti to the lush green grasses of the Masai Mara. The river crossings — considered by many to be the most dramatic events in the natural world — usually begin in July, peaking through August and September

We tracked the herd. We positioned our guests on the Mara River bank at the right crossing point. And then we waited.

The crocodiles had been waiting 11 months for this moment. Our guests watched from 15 metres away.

Price never predicts satisfaction. We’ve seen guests underwhelmed by ₹10 lakh suites and overwhelmed by a 4-tent camp in the middle of Botswana.

And Bhutan — the kingdom that charges the world to enter — remains the destination that changes people most profoundly. Every single time.
