? The Dead Sea Scrolls, one of the great archaeological discoveries of the 20th century, was made by accident... by a shepherd playing with rocks. 👀

In 1947, a Bedouin shepherd threw a stone into the Qumran cave near the Dead Sea and heard the sound of a pot shattering. Inside were ancient scrolls that had remained hidden for nearly 2,000 years! Today, these are known as the Dead Sea Scrolls — over 900 manuscripts containing the oldest surviving copies of books from the Hebrew Bible, along with religious texts, prayers and community writings dating from the 3rd century BCE to the 1st century CE. The discovery transformed our understanding of Judaism, early Christianity and the world into which Jesus was born.

Some of these scrolls are on permanent display in the Jordan Museum in Amman. See them for yourself on the tour with Khaki Tours from 7-13 Nov '26.
