*Adi Kailash* — also called "Chota Kailash" — is a sacred Himalayan peak in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, very close to the India-Tibet border.
*Quick Summary*
- *Location*: Kumaon region, near Om Parvat and Nabhidang, in Vyas Valley. About 15km from the Lipulekh Pass.
- *Height*: ∼5,945 meters / 19,500 ft
- *Significance*: Believed to be one of the abodes of Lord Shiva, just like Mount Kailash in Tibet. That's why it's called "Adi" meaning "original/first" Kailash.
- *Key spots nearby*:
- *Parvati Lake* and *Gauri Kund* at the base
- *Om Parvat* - a neighboring peak where snow naturally forms the 'Om' symbol
- *Jolingkong Lake* - considered extremely holy, Shiva is said to meditate here
*Pilgrimage*
It's part of the newer Adi Kailash Yatra route. The trek usually starts from Dharchula → Gunji → Jolingkong.
Because the Tibet Kailash Mansarovar yatra is harder to access, many devotees now do Adi Kailash + Om Parvat as an alternative. The route passes through remote Himalayan villages and army posts.
Best season is May to October. Beyond that, heavy snow closes the area.
Since you're in Uttarakhand, it's one of the most accessible "Kailash" experiences without crossing into Tibet.
