Today, on Environment Day, we are remembering our beloved nature warrior Lt. Saibal Ganguly. His focus on sustainability and an environmentally conscious lifestyle was an inspiration to all. His hands-on and innovative approach to involving the local populace in taking environmentally conscious steps in one's daily life continues to inspire many.

His efforts to combat plastic pollution had led to Harishpur being declared the first Zero Waste Tea Estate by the Dibrugarh District Administration. The below video depicts one of the flagship projects under his guidance: the "Jail for Plastic Ghost"; where the Harishpur CommuniTEA as well as concerned citizens of nearby areas were encouraged to imprison their Plastic waste, and prevent it from going to landfill or being burnt. Furthermore, an effort was made to supply the waste material to recycling plants.

Today, the Harishpur Communitea pays its respects to Harishpur's founder and guiding light, Late. Shyamal Ch. Bagchi; on his 88th Birth Anniversary.
In the challenging situation of today, where the tea industry is facing an uphill battle against climate change and adverse conditions, we draw strength from his indomitable pioneering spirit and endeavour.

We benefit and take inspiration from his far-sighted endeavours to establish man-made forest patches and water bodies in the plantation area as well as efforts towards crop diversification, well before climate change and adverse production conditions were part of the day to day considerations of tea growers. We are guided by his principles of attention to the highest standards of management and quality of product, and strive to uphold and carry forward his enduring legacy.

May his spirit continue to guide us on this journey.

The Harishpur CommuniTEA observed the 30th Remembrance Day of Lt. Shyamal Ch Bagchi on 15th December 2023, by organising ANEMIA MUKT BHARAT AVIJAAN (ANAEMIA Free India Drive) at S.K. Sankardev Sishu Niketan, Nigam Naharkatia, Dt. Dibrugarh Assam in association with The Jagroto Gramin Samity of Bharat Vikas Parishad Dibrugarh and National Health Mission.

70 students of the school were screened and Medicine was dispense accordingly.

2 minutes of Silence was observed at 3.15 pm.

Naam Kirtan and Bhagavat Gita Path (Recitation of Holy Gita and Prayer) were held in the evening.

This year's Environment Day theme is "solutions to plastic pollution", under the campaign:

To save our mother earth we have to be conscious in our daily life. The foremost duty of humanity is to protect the environment for our own sake.

The Harishpur Communitea advocates for avoidance and responsible use of plastic.

Few steps to reduce domestic plastic use:

1. The 5 R's : Refuse-Reduce-Reuse-Recycle-Repurpose
2. Eco- friendly storage.
3. Avoid plastic as much as possible: stop accepting, stop disposing. Use at your own responsibility
4. Make eco-brick, doormats from single use plastic, flower pot or decorative products from different types of bottles and containers.
5. Always carry a shopping bag with you to reduce plastic pollution.
6. Minimise use of soap, Scheduled washing program.
7. Try to reduce use of fossil fuel. Save electricity.
