An ode to the National Handloom Day, India.
The Swadeshi Movement, launched on August 7, 1905, championed indigenous industries, especially handlooms, as a form of economic resistance to colonial rule. In honour of this legacy, August 7 was declared National Handloom Day in 2015.
Handlooms in India thread intricate tales and stories and weave exotic colourful pattern that have become the epitome of indigenous artistry , exclusive skills and unmatched notes of responsible luxury.
The skills, crafts and tales are passed on from one generation to the other which is a testament to preservation even in the modern technological paradigms of the 21st century.
We salute each artist and artisan who have fought mediocrity (and colonization) with not guns but the threads of handloom.
