A walk in the picturesque lanes of 'Jew Town' Kochi.

Fort Kochi's pastel houses echo European histories, and Jew Town stands as a graceful testament to its unique history. Sephardic Jews, escaping Spain's Edict of Expulsion, arrived during the 15th-16th centuries, establishing a vibrant community intertwined with Kochi's fabric. Star of David-adorned doorways mark the transition from neglected outskirts to bustling boutiques and cafes.

Although, the Jewish connection of Kerala goes back to 2000 years the The Paradesi synagogue was built in 1568 on the land, adjacent to the Mattancherry Palace, given by the erstwhile king of Cochin.

It is still ghe oldest in the Commonwealth built by the Jewish community of Kochi.

As regal as Taj Lake Palace and as royal as the charm of Udaipur.

Udaipur cityscape is timeless. The ornate marble palaces on the banks of the picturesque Lake Pichola are the active remnants of the legends of Rajput Kings. Is it surprising then , that this little town is considered one of the top destinations globally for weddings and functions?

Although, the place is a must visit for all kinds of travellers. We have been many times without a wedding.

And yes the James Bond movie 'Oc*****sy' was shot at this hotel and the city.

Magical sunset with camels in their natural habitat.

Thar Desert has had a successful and symbiotic relationship with the camels here for thousands of years. In the silk route era, camels would traverse from the Himalayan plains to far in the middle East.

Thar desert sits at a geopolitical route bordering India on the west right amidst the erstwhile 'Indus Valley Civilization's of Harappa and Mohenjedaro and is the only desert in India.

Some glimpse from our Himalayan recce for the upcoming season.

Pic 1, 5,6,7 & 8 : Sissu waterfall at 3150m above sea level. It is still considered just above lower Himalayas. 3 hours drive from here the access point for 'SNOW LEOPARD EXPIDITION' begins, which is only during the winter.

Most of our Himalayan itineraries begin in the lower Himalayas (pic 2,3,4 - Manali) and gradually move towards the higher Himalayas.

An ode to the National Handloom Day, India.

The Swadeshi Movement, launched on August 7, 1905, championed indigenous industries, especially handlooms, as a form of economic resistance to colonial rule. In honour of this legacy, August 7 was declared National Handloom Day in 2015.

Handlooms in India thread intricate tales and stories and weave exotic colourful pattern that have become the epitome of indigenous artistry , exclusive skills and unmatched notes of responsible luxury.

The skills, crafts and tales are passed on from one generation to the other which is a testament to preservation even in the modern technological paradigms of the 21st century.

We salute each artist and artisan who have fought mediocrity (and colonization) with not guns but the threads of handloom.

Each travel experience curated by Satark Journeys is incomplete without acknowledging, visiting and supporting the thousands of artisans of India. Write to us to customize a 'textile & artisan' travel itinerary for you.

Time less Kashi (Varanasi)

The world's oldest continuously inhabited city will positively activate your mind, body and soul.

Just merely existing, walking and boating around in Varanasi will make us question our philosophies of life. It will perhaps ignite that light of consciousness which makes us question the propose of mortal beings in the bigger scheme of the cosmos itself.

Why? How?

There is only one way to find out. 🙂

Varanasi is an essential vein of the Indian civilization. Come join us on your journey to Varanasi (Kashi) from October to April.

Glamping in Thar desert is a whole different vibe.

Visiting artisans during the jeep safari (apart from spotting wildlife) and ending the evening with a camel safari sunset on the sanddunes, overlooking the shrubby Thar desert is one of our favourite things to do in Rajasthan.

Add to that an electric cultural Rajasthani Folk performance under the stars and the night feels complete.

The OG Rajasthani charm.
Wise, full of life, vibrant, humble and effortlessly handsome face of Rajasthan/India.

Each time I visit, he is always enthusiastic to fire the pit and mint fresh camel/cow bells and metal chillums.

Shall we put it on the cover page of our travel brochure?

View from Thiksey Monastery in Ladakh.

After a grey loomy day, the sun came out just before sunset to allow us to take some good pictures of 'Shey' from the famous THIKSEY MONASTERY.

His Holiness Dalai Lama is spending a month in Ladakh just 20 minutes from this beautiful monastery.
