The Haunted city of Bhangarh

One of the India’s spookiest and the haunted ruins lies in Bhangarh, Alwar district in the state of Rajasthan. The town of Bhangarh whose haunted status is attracting scores of tourists these days, lies beneath the Sariska forest in Rajasthan. The lost city is open only during the hours of daylight and is strictly prohibited after sunset. The Archeological Survey of India doesn’t have an official office here though government regulations state that every historical site must have an office of the ASI. The myth has it that due to the curse of Guru Bala Nath, the whole town was vacated over night. The Guru Bala Nath forbidden blight devastated the whole town. The tomb of Guru Bala Nath is still found amongst the ruins. This is definitely not for the faint hearted and is one of the scariest places in India.

Khajjiar - The Mini Switzerland of India

Khajjiar, often called as India’s Switzerland, is a hill station in Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh. The hill station is picturesquely set in the midst of magnificent ‘Deodar’ forests. The clump of reeds and the green meadow add an exquisite charm to this place. A small plateau in its green turf of dense pine and Deodar forests along its fringes adds to the pastoral scenery. This place has the rare combination of three ecosystems. The lakes, the pastures and the forests come together to make a visit to this place a unique experience. Hence, it is also popularly called the Mini Switzerland of Himachal Pradesh.

India’s kaleidoscope of landscape ranges from the mighty Himalayan Mountains in the North, beautiful golden beaches in the South and sunny desert in the West. That’s not just it – India has the most diverse culture, rich heritage, royal palaces and memorials like Taj Mahal, majestic historical sites, royal retreats, spiritual destinations, golden beaches, adventure sports, cool retreats and deserts. Interesting how a director can bring out most of the aforementioned concepts and places in a 5 minute commercial.

Incredible India – India’s official tourism department has released “Incredible India 2013” campaign. Incredible India 2013 commercial is shot in places like Ladakh, Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kerala, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam, Varanasi and Thar Desert in Gujarat.

The commercial shows the innocence and hospitality of Indians, on the other hand reveals the local customs too. It’s funny how the woman blocks her seat before boarding the bus – it’s so original!

Baraat is a bridegroom's wedding procession in North India. In North Indian communities, it is customary for the bridegroom to travel to the wedding venue (often the bride's house) on a mare, accompanied by his family members.
The baraat can become a large procession, with its own band, dancers, and budget. The groom and his horse are covered in finery and do not usually take part in the dancing and singing; that is left to the "baraatis" or people accompanying the procession. The groom usually carries a sword. The term baraati is also more generically used to describe any invitee from the groom's side. Traditionally, borates are attended as guests of the bride's family.
The baraat, headed by a display of fireworks and accompanied by the rhythm of the dhol, reaches the meeting point, where the elders of both the families meet. In North Indian Hindu weddings, the groom is greeted with garlands and aarti. In traditional North Indian weddings, baraats are welcomed at the wedding venue with the sound of shehnais, which are considered auspicious at weddings by Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs alike.

Mehndi has a long history in India, the majority centering on weddings. The role of henna goes beyond cosmetic and aesthetic value, and has a much deeper meaning to the women of India.

The night before a wedding is known as the 'Night of Henna” or Mehndi when the bride's hands and feet are decorated with elaborate designs. The designs are usually floral with some signifying fertility. The groom's name is hidden within the right palm of the bride, and he must find it before he is allowed to sleep on his wedding night.

At the Mehndi, relatives and friends (married as well as unmarried) of the bride gather at the bride's house. While the henna is being applied the bride is given advice by older women in married life. There are many folk songs that have been written about the Mehndi and often singing them is a natural progression of the festivities.
In some parts of India, henna is also applied to the bridegroom's palms. The deep red of Mehndi symbolizes the deep love between the husband and wife.

There are many superstitions surrounding the longevity of henna on the bride's hand. One superstition is if the henna lasts longer on the bride's hands than her grooms, the bride will be treated very well at her in-laws' place. Meaning she is spared from doing chores! Since that is the case, the bride's mother often feels a sense of relief when the daughter visits her few days after the wedding and is still able to see the henna design on her daughter's palm.
Mehndi has been just one of the rituals that signify the departure of the bride from her home to her new husband's home. Thus the beginning of an important new stage of life for the young lady.
