And here’s what most people get wrong — off-season doesn’t mean empty hotels. These properties still run at over 50% occupancy because the travelers who know about this window move fast. Some properties like Raffles Udaipur, Six Senses Fort Barwara, and The Leela Palace Jaipur get sold out weeks in advance even during monsoon. So the hack isn’t just knowing about the deal — it’s booking before everyone else does.

One more thing nobody tells you — monsoon is also when hotels are most likely to upgrade you. Fewer guests, more availability, and a front desk that wants you to leave happy. Mention a special occasion at check-in and your chances of a suite upgrade go up significantly.

The window is open right now. Miss it this year and you’re waiting another twelve months.

You check into a 5-star hotel. You open the minibar. It’s completely empty.

This isn’t an oversight — it’s a calculated decision. And once you understand why hotels are doing this, you’ll realise both sides of this story actually make sense.

Before COVID, a fully stocked minibar was standard in every Indian 5-star room. Then hotels discovered that removing it saved them money on daily restocking, expiry management, housekeeping time, and those never-ending checkout billing arguments. So after COVID, many simply never brought it back.
But here’s the thing — a minibar is not a bonus feature. It is part of the expected facilities under India’s hotel classification guidelines for 4-star, 5-star, and 5-star deluxe properties. An empty fridge in a ₹20,000 room is not a luxury experience.

Hotels and guests have been going back and forth on this for years. Hotels say guests misuse it. Guests say hotels overcharge for it. And honestly, both sides have a point.
