Omani hill villages built of mud & brick blend into the rocky mountains so well that you could easily miss spotting them. But how could you….given that the village is always near a water source, and where there is a water source, there have to be Omani farms.

The green clumps are palm trees planted around fields growing grain, vegetables and fruits of all kinds, including bananas & mangoes!

As we drove over Iceland’s second largest glacier (1000 sq km in size) in a monster truck, we were told that the glacier has receded the same distance in the past 5-6 years as it did from the 1940s to 60s. Maybe it would even disappear completely in the next 150 years.

The less air trapped inside an iceberg, the purer blue it is, our guide explained. And it takes just a day for the top of the iceberg to turn white after being warmed from the sun. Turns out, sunburn works the opposite way for icebergs 😃

What’s the big deal about seeing rice terraces? See the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces and you’ll know. A UNESCO World Heritage site, spread over 600 hectares is pure eye candy with its cascading rice terraces, green fields, and palm trees, all set against the backdrop of Mount Batukaru. And did I mention the Subak Indonesian irrigation system? If you do one day trip from Ubud, make it this one!
