📢 IMPORTANT TRAVEL ADVISORY: Ooty Summer Festival 2026 🚨

Heading to the hills for the festivities? To ensure a smooth experience during the Ooty Summer Festival, the Nilgiris District Police have implemented major traffic diversions starting May 1, 2026.

Here is everything you need to know to plan your journey:

🚗 Traffic Diversions (Effective May 1, 2026)
Entering Ooty (from Mettupalayam): All tourist cars must turn left at Kattery Junction. The route follows Selas, Ketti Palada, and Lovedale, entering Ooty via Manjanakorai and Fernhill.

Exiting Ooty (to the Plains): Tourist vehicles must return via Kotagiri Road only. The Coonoor-Burliar route is restricted for descending tourist traffic.

Gudalur-Bound Vehicles: Buses, vans, and maxi cabs must divert at Lovedale Junction and proceed through Manjanakorai and Fingerpost.

🚫 Commercial Vehicle Ban
A total ban on heavy commercial vehicles entering Ooty town is in effect daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Exemptions: Vehicles carrying essential goods like milk and petroleum.

🅿️ Temporary Parking Hubs
To reduce congestion, please use the designated parking zones:

From Coonoor: Aavin parking lot.

From Kotagiri: Government Arts College grounds.

From Gudalur: HPF Golf Road area.

🚨 IMPORTANT TRAVEL ADVISORY FOR OOTY VISITORS 🚨

Planning a trip to the Nilgiris? Please take note of the new traffic regulations for the Kalhatti Ghat Road, effective from April 29, 2026.

Key Updates:

🚫 Tourist Vehicles: The Kalhatti Ghat Road is now closed for all tourist vehicles until further notice.

🐯 Reason: This measure follows a Madras High Court order aimed at controlling traffic flow into the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR).

🏠 Local Residents: If you live locally but own a vehicle with a non-TN-43 registration, you must obtain an entry pass to use this route.

How to get your Entry Pass:
Contact the Police Department at 📞 9498101260 to register and procure your pass.

- All vehicles from Mettupalayam → Ooty must take the Coonoor route
- All vehicles from Ooty → Mettupalayam must go via Kotagiri
- Large vehicles from Mettupalayam will be halted at Aavin
- Large vehicles from Gudalur will be halted at HPF
