Advisory memo for tourist travelling to Gurudugmar lake and yungthang valley, North Sikkim.

A. HOW SAFE IS SIKKIM.
i. The people of Sikkim are the most decent folks you will ever get to meet. public disturbance, bandhs and hooliganism are alien to our culture. Your safety is guaranteed. When you are here try to be one with the nature.

B. BAGGAGE.
i. Travel light, haversack/backpack would be much convenient. Some stretches of the roads leading to Lachung and Lachen can be blocked at multiple places any time, due to landslides or falling boulders where you might have to leave your vehicle and walk the distance carrying your baggage for the transshipment, there haversack would be much convenient to carry. Remember there are no potters in North Sikkim.

C. PLASTIC BOTTLES.
i. Single use Plastic water bottles are banned you will be fined if you are found carrying one. However you can carry water in your Tupperware bottles.

D. TOURIST TAXIS
i. Travel comfortably, don’t squeeze in or overload the vehicle to save a few bucks and compromise your safety.
ii. Avoid any argument with the driver while he is driving, an irritated and a tired driver is a fatal combination.
iii. Check the condition of the vehicle you are hiring your life is more precious than the money you will be saving. Don’t be penny wise pound foolish.

E. TRAVEL AGENTS.
i. Know your travel agents well, some are there to fleece you. Travel agents owned by local Sikkimese are reliable and are accountable.

F. IDENTIFICATION PAPER
i. North Sikkim falls under the restricted area hence you need to obtain the necessary travel documents well in advance. Required permits are issued by the Check Post unit of the police department and the Tourism department.
ii. Your travel permits will be checked at two designated police post while travelling to north Sikkim.Kabi and Toong police check post.
ii. Always carry your personal ID with your cell number with you. It helps us to contact your family members during emergencies.

This is to inform all that from Monday i.e 02.09.2019 onwards, we are not accepting Aadhar Cards for entry in RA/PA Permits of Sikkim.
Adhar Card no longer a valid documents for issue of Protected and Restricted Area Permit in Sikkim.
Hence, all are requested to make arrangements accordingly.
Children below 18 can produce any documents which has the parents name.

Good News for the Tourists

Pakyong flight service to resume on Oct 27

Sikkim is likely to be re-linked with the national aviation map as flight operations from Pakyong airport is set to resume from October 27.
Low cost carrier SpiceJet - which suspended its Pakyong-Kolkata service owing to low visibility on June 1 earlier this year - would re-launch the flight from October 27 for which the company has opened ticket bookings for Kolkata-Pakyong-Kolkata flight.
Earlier, SpiceJet had suspended flight operations for four months till September 21 by displaying a notice at the airport counter. Flight service was suspended due to unpredictable weather in Pakyong which results in very low visibility thus hampering flight operation especially during monsoon.
Pakyong airport is totally based on visual flight rules mode (VFR) and need at least 5 kilometres visibility to land. The visibility is expected to improve after the rainy season.
