It was officially designated as a District of Punjab on July 27, 2011. Pathankot is a significant city in Punjab, bordered by the Ravi and Chakki rivers, which contribute to its legendary beauty and serve as a gateway to the hill stations of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
In ancient texts, the city is referred to as Audumbara, the former capital of the Nupur state. Its earlier name, Pethan, eventually evolved into Pathankot.

Nestled against the backdrop of the Shivalik hills, Pathankot offers breathtaking scenery and was historically recognized for its shawl weaving industry. Currently, it relies on the stone crushing industry and the presence of the Army.
