THE JUNGLE TREKKING:
From the beginning of tourism in Andaman Island Havelock was the center of attraction. From then it is still the center of attraction. With the growing technology, everything is changing day by day. Those were the early days when people use to come in ships mostly to visit our Island and there were only a few vehicles in all over the city Port Blair to roam around. There were small govt ships called Ramanujam, Tapi, Galatia etc which use to carry all the passengers as well as a tourist in the inter Islands. After arriving there was only a few vehicles like the main city was available to roam around. In those days people basically hired bicycles around the islands. This jungle trekking was invented in those days because of certain curious people. The way lead to Elephant Beach which is very popular now. People use engine boats to get there these days because of what this jungle trekking is getting faded. In those days, there was mostly foreigner from all over the world who use to come in the Islands and they basically use this way to get there in elephant beach. Now after 2004 this Tsunami happened and people get to know about our Island and its beauty. Now a day people can find mostly Indian crowd in the Islands and most of them use this power boats for the beach.
The pics you are seeing are a bridge made by those people to get over the canal which is on the way to the beach. It is the oldest way to get to the Elephant beach. By an old saying, it called Elephant beach because the British use to import and export their items as well as the huge logs from there with the help of an elephant. The jungle road is just 0.8 km away from the beach and it started from the main road. This is still beautiful jungle road as it used to be before. Now a day the forest department provide the guides to the visitors. So if you are a trekking lover this is the way you should see and explore the real Andaman and its true nature and Vibe!
