*Art-loving king and his amazing art collection*
One of the important states from the Maratha dynasty was Aundh, which is part of today’s Satara district. This small state has a great treasure of art and artifacts. The last ruler of the Aundh state, *Shrimant Bhawanrao Pantpratinidhi*, was himself a great painter and art lover. He treasured paintings by many great painters like Raja Ravi Varma, Dhurandhar, Baburao Painter, Satvalekar in his collection.
Apart from this, he also collected the best works of art by many painters and sculptors from Europe. When the concept of a museum or art collection was not yet well-established in India, he opened his entire collection to the general public under the name 'Shri Bhavani Chitra-Padarth Puranavastu Sangrahalaya'.
In this museum, we not only get to see paintings of almost all the painting styles of India, but also rare copies of paintings in Ajanta and Ellora, which Shri. Pantpratinidhi himself had made for his own collection. There is a large collection of sculptures made by European artists and similarly sculptures made by Indian sculptors in ivory, metal, and marble.
It is a unique experience to walk through the halls decorated with numerous rare artifacts in this museum with our expert *Art History Researcher & Blogger Yashodhan Joshi and savor the history of them.
Today, the museum displays around 8000 pieces, and we would like to dare call this museum the Louvre of Maharashtra.
