Between the 7th & 12th c there were different Hindu clans and kingdoms. After which the Mughals (Bahamanis, Turks, ADIL SHAHS etc) started invading. The credit of establishing independence as Maratha Kingdom goes to the great Maratha Ruler Shivaji. The peshwas ruled as ministers for 4 generations. The British came to Pune in the early 18th century. A war broke out between the Marathas and the British in 1817 and Pune came under Bombay Presidency Pune was an important center for social and religious reforms
