Do you know that Largest River Island in the World is in India ?

The Guinness World Records has declared Majuli in Assam as the largest river island in the world. Situated in the heart of Assam is the Majuli, means a land in the midst of two rivers. The beautiful river island is formed by Brahmaputra river in the south and Kherkutia Xuti, an anabranch of the Brahmaputra, joined by the Subansiri river in the north. Covering an area of around 880 sq km, it is home to about 1,60,000 people. Unfortunately, Majuli is disappearing at an alarming rate, due to the frequent flooding of the Brahmaputra river, Majuli suffers heavy erosion. In the last 30-40 years it is estimated that it has lost about one third of its area. The island is inhabited by Mising tribes, Deori and Sonowal Kachri tribes and the people speak Mising, Assamese and Deori language. It is also the hub of Assamese neo-Vaishnavite culture. The sacred island is a medley of enthralling views of beautiful wooden boats, rustic countryside side, the lush green paddy fields, extended water body and vibrant culture. The spiritual aura, untouched beauty, remote villages, gentle-hearted local people make Majuli one of the sought-after holiday destination.

But it is predicted that Majuli island may disappear in the next 15 to 20 years. So, make sure you plan a trip soon to this gem of Northeast India.

Did you know that the World’s Highest Cricket Ground is boasted in India ?

Encircled by enormous chir pine and gigantic deodar trees, ‘Chail Cricket Ground’ is the highest cricket ground in the world located at the height of around 2144 m. It rests 7500 feet above sea level and is known as one of the famous cricket stadiums in India. This ground was made by the cricket loving Maharaja of Patiala- Bhupinder Singh in the year 1893. During that period, the Maharaja used to play cricket with the British here but now it is under the control of Indian Army. Set in the state of Himachal Pradesh, this cricket ground is in the scenic hill station of Chail. Visitors can relish a splendid view of Sutlej Valley, Shimla and Kasauli at night from here. Situated around 45 km from Shimla, It is considered to be a paradise for hikers, owing to its distance away from the hustle and bustle of Shimla.

So all the cricket lovers out there, don’t miss out a game on the World’s Highest Cricket Ground.
