Har ki doon valley is often associated with mythical stories of Mahabharata. Har ki doon literally means valley (Doon) of Gods or Shiva (Har). The story goes that there was a clan that was faithful towards the Kaurava's (Duryodhan) that lived in the village of Osla,district Uttarkashi. (Osla is around 11 kms from the Har ki dun valley). They were so loyal to Duryodhan that they built a temple for him and till date they preach Duryodhan and have not conformed to mainstream religious practices. The temple also known as Someswar temple is a simple three-chambered wooden structure with exquisitely carved pillars. The 5,000-year-old ritual of the drum being played thrice a day in honor of their beloved king Duryodhana continues even today. Strangely enough legends has it that despite all this, the Pandava's made their final journey to heaven from this very valley.
