In 1993, French electrician Émile Leray found himself stranded in the unforgiving African desert after his Citroën 2CV was wrecked on a rock during a journey from Morocco. With no way to call for help and walking too dangerous, he did the unthinkable — using basic tools and salvaged parts, he transformed his broken car into a fully functional motorcycle.
Over 12 days, Émile shortened the chassis, repositioned the engine, and crafted a working ride using only what he had. He eventually rode out to safety — only to be fined for operating a vehicle that didn’t match his papers!
Today, his handmade desert motorcycle stands as a powerful symbol of human ingenuity, survival, and the spirit of adventure.
