Fauja Singh (1911–2025): The Turbaned Tornado 🌪️
Born April 1, 1911 in Beas Pind, Punjab, Fauja Singh couldn’t walk properly until he was five. Health challenges marked his early life — but by his 80s, grief led him to lace up, and he began running at age 89 to heal after losing his wife and son.
From that moment on, he never stopped.
🏅 At 90, he conquered the London Marathon in 6h 54m, smashing age‑group expectations.
🏆 At 100, he became the first centenarian to complete a full marathon, running Toronto—earning global admiration even without official Guinness validation.
🎖️ He carried the Olympic torch in 2012, starred in campaigns with Beckham & Ali, and was awarded the British Empire Medal.
Fauja Singh’s journey from frailty to sainthood in sneakers showed the world what grit looks like. He retired at 101, but his spirit kept moving.
His Final Chapter
On July 14, 2025, age 114, he tragically passed away after being struck by an unidentified vehicle while out for a walk near his home in Beas Pind, Jalandhar. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Punjab’s Governor, the global running community, and millions worldwide mourned the loss of their Turbaned Tornado — a man whose every stride spoke of resilience, faith, and hope.
Legacy & Final Words
Fauja Singh once said:
“The body may slow down. But the soul? It keeps running.”
His message was simple and eternal: age is not a barrier — spirit is. His legacy runs on through every person he touched, every race he inspired, and every limit he shattered.
Rest in power, legendary Fauja Singh. You ran beyond records — you ran into our hearts. 💔✊
