WARDS LAKE: This beautiful Lake is the fruit of a bored Prisoner more than 100 years back when the British ruled this part of the world. The horse-shoe shaped lake was born when a bored Prisoner with the labor camp routine requested the Jail warden for some creative release. He was granted the permission to create the artificial Wards Lake and now it is visited by many from across the world. The Lake is decorated with naturally grown Orchards and Water Lilly.

The Giant "KYLLANG ROCK": stands tall at a height of 5400 ft above sea level with a girth of more than 1000 ft is very unique and the only kindin the world. A massive steep dome shaped single rock of Red Granite. It is believed to have Magnetic Powers as it is said no one falls off its top.
According to geologists, the hard red granite rock is Several Million Years old. The rock is accessible from its northern and eastern flanks, but inaccessible from its southern flank where its slope exceeds 800 ft over an incline of about six hundred feet. The southern side of Kyllang Rock is encumbered with enormous detached blocks of rock, while its northern side is clothed with dense forests, containing age-old red Rhododendron trees and oaks besides bushy, white Rhododendron trees which are not found elsewhere.
Interesting Mythical Story behind the Giant Rock: According to local tribes "Khasi" legend, KYLLANG was a mischievous god known for his mood swings. He often challenged people and showed off his prowess by hurling down rocks. SYMPER, another giant rock, located at Weiloi is more calm and does to approve Kyllang’s behavior and always protest his violent and destructive nature.

Kyllang did not like Symper’s interference and hence a battle started between the two. Symper won the battle by default since he had accidental blessings in the form of boulders whereas Kyllang only had sand. After the battle, it is believed the Kyllang moved to Khadsawphra in West Khasi Hills and Symper stayed in the same location in East Khasi Hills.
