Rumtase is a small village in Ladakh. Rumtase is the first human settlement from Lahaul to Ladhak after Taglang Pass. It is located 70km east of Leh and is the starting point for the trek to Tso Moriri. Rumtase, like the rest of Ladakh, is known for its barren landscape and scenic beauty.
Locals follow Tibetan Buddhism and the Rumtase Monastery holds significant influence over the locals. The Monastery has 108 stupas which are quite similar to those found in the Indus valley.

Located north of the Indus River 19km from Leh, Thiksey Monestry is a traveler delight to witness. Thiksey was built in 1430 A.D. and is the Largest Monastery in central Ladakh. Apart from that it is famous for its 49ft tall statue of Maitrey Buddha in the lotus position, which covers two floors of the Monastery.

She became the world’s first female amputee to scale Mount Everest in 2013. She was on a train and some robbers attacked her and in resistance to the robbers she got thrown out of the moving train. Her leg was amputated in the accident. After recovering worked her way through the tough times and ended up inspiring people all over the world.
