I would like to calmly clarify the situation, as some statements being circulated about me are incomplete and misleading.
This traveler first contacted me through a public Facebook post requesting urgent help with basic supplies such as tissues, medicine, water bottles, and oxygen while she was in a remote village near Kibber in Spiti Valley during heavy snowfall and extreme winter conditions. Because of the weather and remoteness, I explained clearly that in winter, transport and accommodation depend entirely on road safety and availability.
She later asked multiple times to reserve services and then to cancel, and I continued assisting patiently because she appeared to be in a difficult situation. The prices were communicated in advance—INR 5,000 for a 4WD taxi and INR 1,700 for a homestay with an electric blanket and room heater—and she agreed and asked me to proceed.
A 4WD vehicle was sent in severe snowstorm conditions to pick her up. The vehicle became stuck near Kee village due to zero visibility and heavy snowfall and had to return when the road did not clear. Despite this serious risk taken by the driver to try to bring her safely to Kaza, she did not make any payment toward the taxi.
I did not request any money from her while arrangements were being made. Only after she cancelled everything did I ask her to pay INR 2,000 toward the INR 5,000 taxi cost that had already been incurred through the taxi union. She declined, and for safety reasons and in good faith, I personally paid this amount myself.
She also called me around 5:00 a.m. requesting that accommodation not be cancelled, and I answered and continued assisting when most services were unavailable.
I would also like to clearly state that I never made negative remarks about local people. Spiti is my home, and my work is based entirely on supporting local communities and ensuring travelers are treated safely and respectfully year-round.
Despite our experience helping travelers during harsh winter conditions, this was an unusual and unfortunate incident for us. I did not pressure her at any stage and repeatedly offered cancellation.
I respectfully request that any public discussion reflect the full context rather than partial information. I remain open to calm, factual clarification.
