Weave Your Unforgettable Journeys With Us.......
A Few valuable information shared by the Pioneer Hemonta Borah of The Tumjang, Dima Hasao, Assam.
🏞️ *Tumjang Village, Sielkal B**g & Thingtuhbung – The Heart of Barail Hills*
Tumjang is a small, peaceful village tucked away in Assam’s Barail Hills — a region rich in biodiversity, scenic beauty, and the cultural heritage of the indigenous Kuki people. In recent years, Tumjang has quietly become a new hotspot for travelers seeking offbeat trails, stunning landscapes, and authentic hill culture.
Endless ridgelines of grassy meadows, pine-laced trails, and panoramic views come together here to create what many call a "hidden heaven in the hills."
🌿 *Sielkal B**g (1500–1550m)*
Sielkal B**g is one of the most scenic and accessible trekking spots near Tumjang. Located at an altitude of approx. 1500 to 1550 meters above sea level, it offers wide-angle views of the Haflong–Maibong hills and distant plains.
You can reach the Sielkal B**g viewpoint with:
A 2-hour trek from P. Leikul Village, or
A 1-hour uphill hike from Tumjang Village.
> Please note: Sielkal B**g is not Assam’s highest, second-highest, or even third-highest peak — a common misinformation spread online. In fact, when you stand atop Sielkal B**g, you can see multiple taller peaks surrounding it, proving it's not the highest point.
🏔️ *Thingtuhbung (1866–1900m) – Assam’s Highest Peak*
Mt. Thingtuhbung is located east of Tumjang Village and is currently believed to be Assam’s highest peak, standing at approximately 1866 to 1900 meters. Reaching the summit involves a 3-hour trek through dense forests, steep ridges, and rugged, unexplored terrain. No formal trail exists yet, making it a raw and rewarding experience for serious trekkers.
The climb is best attempted in the winter months when the jungle is drier and visibility is clearer.
🏞️ *Thepi B**g (Approx. ~ 1700m) – Assam’s Third Highest Peak*
Thepi B**g lies South of Sielkal B**g, within Tumjang territory. With an elevation close to 1700 meters, it is believed to be the third highest peak in Assam. Still mostly unexplored, Thepi B**g offers a great opportunity for trekkers looking to venture beyond Sielkal and connect with more remote parts of the Barail Range.
đź—» *Other Notable Peaks in the Barail Range*
We’ve also explored the southern section of the Barail Hills near Jatinga and Haflong, where Assam’s second-highest peak — *Hempiupet/Simitbung — ( Approx 1750 m)* rises prominently near *N. Leikul Village* . Several other high points in this part of range would qualify among the top 10 highest peaks in Assam.
Another Noteble peak is *Thingbung / Mahadev Peak* ( Approx 1600m ) - *most photographed peak* from Sielkal B**g , located west from Sielkal.
This knowledge comes from our firsthand research, years of field expeditions, and deep collaboration with local villagers who have lived among these mountains for generations.
