MONAL HOME STAY: THE TREKKERS' CHOICE
The cold mountain air hit me, but the sight of Monal Home Stay felt like warmth. It wasn't just a guesthouse; it was the organized starting line for our trek.

First task: permits. We were perfectly positioned just a few quick steps from the Police and Forest check posts. Thanks to the convenience and the help of the on-site registered trek & tour office—ready to assist with all services—the paperwork was sorted within a quick thirty minutes.

While I settled into my comfort view room, the expedition preparations moved efficiently outside. Our trekking staff found their designated camp area, and the ample logistics space allowed the guides to smoothly manage the loading of the pack animals for the morning departure.

Dinner was simple, grounding, organic food served in the big, spacious dining room. Looking out over the valley, I knew we had picked the right base. Everything we needed—from the trek logistics store to the secure private parking—was right here.

The next morning, we were ready to hit the trail, rested, fed, and completely organized, all thanks to this perfect trekkers' hub.

In the Limbu language, Sewaro (se+wa+ro) is a greeting that signifies more than just "hello"; it represents kindness, mutual care, responsibility, and the declaration of the sanctity of one's thoughts toward another person. It is an act of embodying helpfulness and responsibility towards others and the community, often accompanied by a gesture of extending a hand as if to gather something, and concluding with a respectful "Namaste".
Detailed breakdown of Sewaro:
Etymology:
Sewaro is believed to be an amalgamation of three Limbu words: 'Se', 'Wa', and 'Ro'.
Meaning:
It combines ideas of helping, taking care, and responsibility.
Action:
The gesture involves extending a hand from the ground, as if gathering something, to show care and a willingness to help.
Cultural Significance:
Community and Kindness: It emphasizes helping others and fostering a sense of community through kindness.
Responsibility: The greeting promotes being responsible for one's actions and caring for what is important, such as the community.
Respect: It's a gesture that shows deep respect, declaring the purity of one's thoughts towards the person being greeted.
Integration: The greeting often culminates in a traditional "Namaste," blending cultural practices.
In essence, saying "Sewaro" in the Limbu culture is a profound expression of interconnectedness, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to the well-being of others.

STORY OF MONAL HOME STAY
UTTAREY WEST SIKKIM -
In the corner of Sikkim's western wilderness, where the majestic Himalayas whisper secrets to the wind, lies the quaint village of Uttarey, a tranquil haven nestled in the valley's picturesque landscape. Sharing the friendly border with our neighboring county Nepal. Our family's story began in this sleepy village, surrounded by lush forests of rhododendrons, magnolias, and oaks, etc., where the yak herders would occasionally trek through the valley with their line of yaks, their bells jingling in harmony with the whistling sound of the yak man, as they exchanged dairy products for essentials.

The village life was mainly depended upon agriculture and the land.
Occasionally european trekkers were seen during the trek season & the locals used to assist them mostly as the porters & porter's guide & yak man.
As the years passed, the village began to transform. The Sikkim government recognized Uttarey's potential for tourism development and initiated plans to create an artificial lake on the dried alpine lake bed. Envisioning a brighter future where tourism would bring prosperity to the valley.

With the govt. approval & joint aggrement with the locals, the issue of compensation & site allotment at the future market place and with a dream to welcome travelers from far and wide, we dismantled our old typical house and rebuilt it with the same wooden materials at the suitable site on the way to Tenzing & Hillary Park Road just above the hill side of the valley, overlooking the Uttarey valley & the holy peak - Neydham, envisioning a home stay that would offer great view, comfortable stays, cultural experiences, and delicious local organic meals. Years later, a modern concrete house was added, blending tradition with modernity, and hence Monal Home Stay was born.

Uttarey Valley has now come up with numerous home stay with their own own stories. And day by day now after many years the numbers of tourist are seen gradually increasing both for trekking as well as tour trip, however I would say Uttarey is still offbeat place with limited tourist.

Our home stay is a haven for those seeking offbeat experiences, offering a glimpse into rural Sikkim's beauty and heritage. We're conveniently located near local markets, sightseeing points, and upcoming attractions like the artificial lake and Singshore Bridge, the second-highest suspension bridge in Asia. Our guests can explore the valley's hidden gems, including Tenzing and Hillary Park, Monastery and Manghim, Sanni Dham, Trout Farm, village walk, Waterfalls & river all within a short distance.

At Monal Home Stay, we offer traditional and modern comfort rooms, providing choice for our guests. Our traditional kitchen serves organic local meals, while our modern kitchen offers a taste of authentic Sikkimese cuisine. We also have private parking space and a nearby kitchen garden & the place where our domestic animals live.

As the artificial lake construction work progresses rapidly, we hope that more travelers will discover the beauty of Uttarey Valley and stay with us at Monal Home Stay. We're committed to providing exceptional hospitality, cultural experiences, and comfortable stays, making your visit to our valley truly unforgettable. Join us on this journey and experience the magic of Uttarey Valley with Monal Home Stay, where comfort meets culture.
