Smiles, sightings & stories - Baanaadi – Introductory Birding Workshop 15.0
📍 Chikkamagaluru | Feb 20–22, 2026

Over three immersive days in the landscapes of Chikkamagaluru, participants stepped into the fascinating world of birds — learning the foundations of bird identification, understanding habitats, behaviour, and sharpening their observation skills. Our nature walks were filled with memorable sightings, including few Western Ghats endemics.

A special thank you to our guest speaker, Mr. Shekar Dattatri, for an insightful and deeply inspiring evening session. Your perspectives added immense depth to the experience.

We extend our gratitude to for their support, and to the hospitality team for ensuring seamless logistics throughout the workshop.

And to every participant — your curiosity, enthusiasm, and joy made this edition truly memorable.

Massive bills, powerful wingbeats, and an unmistakable presence in the treetops — hornbills are among the most iconic birds of Karnataka’s forests.

Strongly tied to old, mature trees, these fruit-eaters are vital seed dispersers, helping forests regenerate and thrive. Their presence, especially the Great Hornbill, often signals a healthy, well-protected habitat, especially in the Western Ghats.

Which hornbill have you been lucky enough to see in the wild?

Happy faces from our Baanaadi - Introductory Birding workshop 14.0 which was conducted at Coorg between Feb 6-8, 2026.

The workshop introduced the participants to the world of birds and dived into topics about bird identification, behaviour, tips & tricks and conservation issues to name a few. During the nature walks, we got to sight and observe several endemic bird species and few sightings were quite the delight!

Special mention about our guest speaker - Mr.Shekar Dattatri! Thank you so much for your time and for the wonderful evening talks, it truly was an eye opener for all of us!

We’d like to thank for all the support and extend our gratitude to the hospitality staff for the smooth logistics and operations throughout the workshop.

We’d also like to thank every individual participant who contributed in making this event super fun & successful!

When engineers struggled with loud tunnel booms from high-speed trains, they turned to an unlikely teacher — a bird.

The kingfisher’s beak lets it dive from air into water with barely a splash. By copying this shape, engineers made trains quieter, more energy-efficient, and even faster.

This is biomimicry — learning from nature’s 3.8 billion years of R&D.

Next time you spot a kingfisher, remember: you’re looking at a world-class engineer. 🫡
