Ooty officially known as Udhagamandalam (also known as Ootacamund ), is a town and a municipality in the Nilgiris district of the Tamil Nadu. It is located 86 km north west of Coimbatore and 128 km south of Mysore and is the headquarters of the Nilgiris district. It is a popular hill station located in the Nilgiri Hills. Local residents call it Queen of Hills. It was the summer capital of Madras Presidency.

Ooty is well connected to the road network. Coimbatore to Ooty cabs 85 kms. No private buses to Ooty. TN bus service is available from 5 AM onwards at an interval of 15 to 30 minutes till late night. Most of the Hotels check in and check out time may be 10 PM.
For sightseeing tour package is available from Rs. 250/- head on van cab will cost Rs. 3000/- onwards.
If you hire an auto rickshaw you have to bargain the fare.
A lot of hotels, home stays and youth hostels are there.

In full season the room rent may be double than the Off Season and for that period you have to book the room may be four months in advance. Room rent will be Rs. 500/- to 14,000/- per day for two persons. Every additional person above the age of ten up to two persons will be charged extra for family rooms.
For a full sightseeing you have to spend a minimum of four days.
