Brihadeeshwara temple is one of the largest South Indian temples and an exemplary example of a fully realized Dravidian architecture. Built out of granite, the vimana tower above the sanctum is one of the tallest in South India and it was, in all likelihood, one of the tallest structures in the world at the time of its construction. This temple is having a massive colonnaded corridor and also having one of the largest Shiva lingams in India. The dome of this temple is constructed from a single piece of granite weighing about 81 tonnes.

Chennai becomes the first city in south India (third in India) to have direct flight from Japan.

On 27th October first direct flight NH825 from Tokyo landed at Chennai airport. ANA (All Nippon Airways) is operating Boeing 787-8 aircraft between Chennai-Narita (International Airport for Tokyo) thrice a week.
