When we made up our minds to visit Valparai for a holiday, we began looking for accommodation options. We couldn't decide on any place unanimously. Homestays in Valparai didn't look very promising. Horn bill castle was not at all prompt with responding and they sent a confirmation email and when I called them the day before the trip they said they cancelled my booking since they got a guest who booked all their rooms. Fortunately when I called another homestay the gentleman there said that Valparai is full of homestays but maybe I should look for accommodation outside Valparai and these homestays are very basic. That's when came across Petra family guest house on TripAdvisor. I called them and made a booking based on the raving reviews from previous visitors. Can't thank them enough.

This place is 20 kms away from Valparai. It's just 500 mts from sholayar dam. Beautiful location. Secluded and away from the town crowd. Pristine surroundings. Execellently maintained. Courteous manager, wonderful staff, friendly chef, clean rooms and bathrooms.

Fresh hot food. Made as per our requirements. We wanted dairy free vegetarian food and we got just that. The property is called Petra...founded on the rock.

Right behind the building is a rock and you can walk up to it and sit there and enjoy the mist and birds and butterflies. The room 104 was ideal for two. The room looks small but the best part is it has a small ante room attached to the bedroom with a table and an extra cot. That was like an add on..since it gave us so much space.

Don't miss the garlic rasam and the crispy hot dosas made by chef Rajendran at the dinning terrace.
