Sankata Devi Temple, संकटा देवी मंदिर

This temple dedicated to the goddess Sankata Devi (Reliever of Danger).
On both sides of the Goddess, there are idols of Lord Hanuman
and Lord Bhairava. The temple has a big Shivalingam and a
Banyan tree which protects the idols of Lord Ganesha and Lord
Hanuman. It is popularly believed that Pandavas had come to
this place to worship Goddess Sankatha during their exile.There
is a huge statue of the lion inside the premises that is
considered to be the Ride of Goddess. You can also see statues
of nine planets in the temple.
History:
In the late 18th century, the King of Baroda constructed the Sankata Ghat. At the same time, the Sankata Devi Mandir was also constructed. In the year 1825, the ghat was made pucca by the widow of Brahmin Pandit.
धार्मिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार पांडवों जब अज्ञातवास में थे तो उस समय वह आनंद वन (काशी को पहले आनंद वन भी कहते थे) आये थे और मां संकटा की भव्य प्रतिमा स्थापित कर बिना अन्न-जल ग्रहण किये ही एक पैर पर खड़े होकर पांचों भाईयों ने पूजा की थी। इसके बाद मां संकटा प्रकट हुई और आशीर्वाद दिया कि गो माता की सेवा करने पर उन्हें लक्ष्मी व वैभव की प्राप्ति होगी। पांडवों के सारे संकट दूर हो जायेंगे। इसके बाद महाभारत के युद्ध में पांडवों ने कौरवों को पराजित किया था।
