Sarnath was recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. It becomes India's 45th World Heritage Site and Uttar Pradesh's fourth.
Sarnath, the sacred and historic land of Varanasi, has officially been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site! 🎉🙏
This is the sacred land where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon (Dhammachakra Pravartan) after attaining enlightenment. The centuries-old history, the heritage of the Dhamekh Stupa, the Chaukhandi Stupa, and the great Ashoka Pillar, have now gained a new identity on the global stage.
🛕 Dhamek Stupa: Where the message of peace and compassion was first echoed.
🗿 Ashoka Pillar: India's national emblem, the foundation of our rich culture.
🧱 Chaukhandi Stupa: Witness to the first meeting of Lord Buddha and his disciples.
📜 Sarnath Archaeological Museum: Where historical artifacts from India's golden age are hidden.
