Pita Maheshwar Shivling : The Hidden Marvel
In the heart of Varanasi lies a secret haven, the Pita Maheshwar Shivling temple, shrouded in mystery and guarded by time. Legend has it that this temple houses the self-manifested form of Lord Shiva, a sacred Shivling, mentioned in the revered Skand Puran.
As per the Kashi Khand of Skand Puran, Lord Kartikey describes Pita Maheshwar Shivling as one of Kashi's most prominent divine sites. Yet, this temple remains veiled, located 40 feet underground, revealing its divine presence only through a peephole.
Pita Maheshwar opens its gates sparingly – on Shivratri, Rang Bhari Ekadashi, and Mondays during the monsoon. However, the Shivling is visible year-round through the ground-level peephole, allowing devotees to connect with its powerful aura.
Hidden Treasures Protected Through Generations
The secrecy surrounding such temples is a testament to the bravery of Varanasi's residents. Built during times of invasion, these temples were shielded by houses erected as a protective cloak. Rather than "encroachers," these brave souls are the guardians of our heritage.
A Call to Recognize and Appreciate
Let's rewrite the narrative and appreciate the descendants of those who risked their lives to protect our cultural gems. The stories of these brave residents deserve recognition more than the false narratives spun by divisive media.
Mukti for Generations
Pita Maheshwar, like many hidden gems, holds immense significance. Scriptures proclaim that worshiping here grants liberation not just to oneself but extends blessings to the next 20 generations.
