For this year's edition of Eurovision, participants were asked to perform a cover of a song of their choice.

The contestants from the UK, Remember Monday, were in no doubt as they chose the epic song Húsavik (My Hometown) that was made famous in the Netflix movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. The song was nominated for an Academy Award and was performed and filmed at the harbour in Húsavík for the 2021 Oscars ceremony.

And now, just as then, a new video has been produced by locals at Húsvík in collaboration with the UK artists who flew to North Iceland to perform the song in the very town it was written about. Enjoy the incredible performance and scenery, and all the best to Remember Monday for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest!

"Walking along Akureyri's harbour is to feel what it's like to skirt around the edge of the earth.

This isn't the typical host town of a sporting event.

John McDonald and Russ Bray had ventured to the frozen north - and it was their presence that had prompted me to hop on a flight from London Gatwick to the small Icelandic town."

Will Schofield from the Daily Star flew to Akureyri from London with easyJet, to experience a darts competition and all the best North Iceland has to offer.

It is not surprising that these horses were called man's most necessary servant, considering the total lack of roads in former times. Leading through the untouched, charming nature of North Iceland, riding trails follow the coast, wind into the scenic mountains, or revive the use of age-old trails with varied history.

Horseback riding tours are widely available in North Iceland. Many places also have special exhibitions that introduce travellers to the Icelandic horse, and events related to riding and raising horses are always on the increase.

"The town of Húsavík in the north of Iceland is nicknamed the “whale-watching capital of Iceland” but it's likely the best whale-watching hub in all of Europe. "

At the beginning of February, an article was published on Lonely Planet reviewing the best whale-watching tours in the world. The author of the article compiled the best experiences she has had over the past ten years. It is safe to say that she has traveled extensively, as she describes trips across several different continents.

At the top of her list was her experience in Iceland, specifically in Húsavík. Nearly a decade ago, she went whale watching there on a RIB boat, which clearly left a strong impression. In the article, she mentions that Húsavík is often referred to as the "capital" of whale watching in Iceland, but she argues that the town is actually the best whale-watching hub in all of Europe.

On the edge of the Arctic is a town called Raufarhöfn. Rich of history, Raufarhöfn is now a quiet little fishing village in the process of redefining itself. All basic services can be found in Raufarhöfn and this Arctic Circle village is a peaceful setting to enjoy walks, fishing or birdwatching, and offers a front-row seat for enjoying the midnight sun in summer and northern lights in winter.

On a small elevation at the edge of the village, the Arctic Henge is being constructed. A huge stone sundial with allusions to mythology and folklore, designed to interact with the unique natural light in this village at the edge of the arctic.
