Off the beaten path is a mountain biking tour that takes guests into deserted coves and fjords and over mountain passes. It is a tour that is in a particular favorite with us. The area that we travel through is beautiful and few of those who visit Iceland ever see it. The tour is three days and two nights. The pictures in this album are from day one. The tour starts in the little fishing village of Eskifjörður and from there we bike up into the highlands and into the deserted cove of Vöðlavík. There we spend the night at the hut at Karlsstaðir.

Why are there so many abandoned farms in Iceland? Because the inhabitants ALL DIED ... of natural causes and then nobody moved to the farms and they just stood there deserted. And that is all I have to say about that. Nice picture though by Kevin Fay.
