Mr. Greg Fletcher and his wife, Laura Hine, arrived in Iceland this morning. In 1973, Mr. Fletcher was forced to make an emergency landing of a Douglas aircraft on Sólheimasandur. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the plane has remained there ever since, now attracting large numbers of visitors every day. Mr Fletcher is revisiting Iceland and the site of the plane for the first time in 50 years.

Mrs Christine Negroni, writer and journalist, is in Iceland to travel with Mr Greg Fletcher to the plane wreck on Sólheimasandur. In 1973 Mr Fletcher, a pilot for the US Navy, made an emergency landing on the black sand. Noone was hurt and the plane has been there ever since and now a tourist attraction.
Glacial Experience is responsible for bringing the crew to the plane next week.

“We went from doing power transport to an overweight glider,” the U.S. Navy pilot of the C-117D that crashed on a beach in Iceland in 1973 recalls the fateful flight.

The captain of the plane that was forced to land on the black sand of south coast of Iceland in 1972 is revisiting the plane (wreck) next week. Glacial Experience will take care of bringing Mr Fletcher and his family there as well as a crew form ABC News.
