Today, we were treated to an extraordinary encounter with a curious humpback whale in the calm in fjord waters of Hólmavík. Choosing to spend a few moments with us, this gentle giant reminded us just how special respectful wildlife encounters can be. Experiences like this are wild, humbling, respectful and absolutely magical. 🐋💙

Another amazing day!

In Iceland, it is still uncommon for whale watching guides to consistently collect scientific data for research organizations. However, on our trips our guides are not only sharing their knowledge with guests, they are also acting as citizen scientists for WhaleWise.org, helping researchers monitor and identify individual whales.

We would also love your help. If you take photographs of whale tails (flukes) during the tour, these images can help researchers identify individual whales and track their movements over time. Every photo can contribute valuable information to ongoing research and conservation efforts.

What a beautiful week this has been with amazing sightings of a male orca, humpback whales and minke whale. They are arriving early this season, and we are excited for what’s ahead here in Whale Watching Hólmavík.
