There is no script out on Skjálfandi Bay. Some days you wait, you hope, and occasionally you politely ask the dolphins for a favour. This time, they delivered.

Happy guide. Happy guests. Happy dolphins.

The whales may be the main event, but don't forget to look up! Meet the Arctic tern, Kría, Iceland's feisty little summer visitor. It migrates from the Arctic to Antarctica and back every year, the longest migration of any animal on Earth. Tiny bird. Big attitude. Don't get too close to its nest, though. You've been warned.

The dynamic duo behind Friends of Moby Dick.

Arnar and Mada first met while working together for another whale-watching company in Iceland. When Arnar decided to restart his own whale-watching company (having founded his first one in Húsavík back in 1994), there was never any doubt who he wanted by his side.

A marine biologist from Madeira and one of the most passionate guides you'll ever meet, Mada quickly became an irreplaceable part of Friends of Moby Dick. After years of working together, she knows what Captain Arnar is going to do before he does.

In that first summer, it was mostly just the two of them. One boat, a van full of red flotation suits, and a shared passion for delivering authentic and personal whale-watching experiences in Skjálfandi Bay.

Today, Friends of Moby Dick has grown to two boats, an office by the harbour, and a wonderful team of six guides from around the world. But the philosophy remains exactly the same: to offer personal, authentic, and unforgettable experiences at sea.

Some things change. The passion never does.
