Yesterday gave us another beautiful moment on the bay with humpback whales surfacing on perfectly still water. No wind, no waves, just the sound of the whale breathing.

Encounters like this don’t happen every day, and maybe that’s what makes them so special. Skjálfandi Bay has its surprises, but it always knows how to leave us speechless.

These beautiful pictures were taken by Martin, during one of those perfectly still moments on the bay.

A minke whale surfaced quietly nearby, a perfectly captures peaceful encounter on calm water.

Days like this remind us why Skjálfandi Bay is such a special place. Sometimes, the ocean gives you a show… and sometimes, it gives you silence. Both are unforgettable.

Pure joy on the waves!
On one of the recent tours, a playful pod of white-beaked dolphins joined us, leaping out of the water and racing alongside the boat. They’re fast, curious, and always seem to bring a special kind of energy to the bay.

We never know when we’ll spot them - sometimes they pass in the distance, and other times, like this, they put on a full show right next to us. Always a highlight of the day!

Yesterday’s tours brought us some really special minke whale moments 🐳 One surfaced so close we could see every detail - smooth, quiet, just a few breaths before diving again.

In one of the shots, you can even see the birds around, waiting for fish stirred up by the whale’s movements. It's a common sight to see birds following them. We even have a saying - if you see an active flock of birds, there must be a Minke around!

Minkes can be shy and fast, so getting such close, relaxed encounters like this always feels special.

Recently had another visit from our very special visitors in the bay - northern bottlenose whales! 🐋✨
These deep-diving whales aren’t regular guests in Skjálfandi, so every encounter feels like a gift. They’re part of the beaked whale family and are incredible divers, capable of reaching depths of over 1,000 meters while hunting for squid in the cold, dark waters far below.

Seeing them at the surface is rare and watching a pod move through the bay is something we’ll be talking about for a long time.

Everyone is talking about our new boat! The operation of Vinur is fully booked almost every day and we couldn't be more happy about that as the whales seem to love the boat too. We would love to have you on board!

A raised flipper waving and a boat full of excitement! This humpback whale gave us a beautiful surprise lifting its massive pectoral fin just meters from the boat. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do.

Pilot Whales in the Bay!! Not something we see every day in Skjálfandi, so when a pod appeared during one of our tours, it was a big moment for all of us.

Pilot whales are known for their strong social bonds and tight family groups. Watching them move together - almost in sync is just hypnotizing.

They didn’t stay long, but long enough to remind us:

This Minke whale is probably one of the most unforgettable whales we have met this year. We meet a lot of whales out here, but every once in a while, something incredibly special happens.

This minke whale was circling the boat, surfacing over and over again, and staying with us far longer than we ever expected. Minkes are usually fast, shy, and a bit unpredictable… but not this one. This one was curious. Calm. Almost playful.

Nobody wanted to miss a second. Some encounters just stay with you and we're still thinking about this one 💙

This humpback breached again. And again. And again - right in front of the boat. We lost count after five, and the cheering on deck didn’t stop the whole time.

Breaching like this is still one of the most breathtaking things we ever witness out here - and no, we never get used to it.

Some say it’s play, some say it’s communication — no matter the reason, it felt like this whale was putting on a full show for us.

Safe to say no one on board will forget this day.
