Iceland's Highlands are opening for the summer, and you don't need a car to get there. Many travellers pass up the chance to visit the extraordinary landscapes of the Highland region in favour of more easily accessible parts of the country. Yet that’s a pity: the scenery will rightly make a lasting impression.
Our Highland Bus connects Reykjavík to some of Iceland's most remote and spectacular landscapes.
📍 Landmannalaugar (~4.5 hrs from Reykjavík)
Rainbow rhyolite mountains, natural geothermal hot springs, and sweeping lava fields. The starting point of the famous Laugavegur Trail. Best for colourful landscapes and a wilder, more remote feel.
📍Þórsmörk (Thorsmork) (~4–5 hrs from Reykjavík)
A lush green oasis tucked between glaciers. Gorgeous canyon hikes, stunning glacier views, and the finishing point of the Laugavegur Trail. Best for accessible trails and that fairytale forest atmosphere.
Both are reachable by Highland Bus from Reykjavík — no 4x4 needed!
Running from June to August, you can even combine both ends for the full Laugavegur Trail experience.
