A quick guide to September in Iceland plus a few more facts you should know:

- tap water is drinkable

- 11.5-14.5 hours of daylight

- F roads are open until about mid Sept

- Most of the puffins are already back to sea

- average temperature: 40-50°F (5-10°C)

- you can visit an Ice Cave called Katla - just be sure to book a tour with Katlatrack · Ice Cave Tours and save $$ with code KYANASUE

- make sure to visit at least 1 hot spring. My favorite is Laugarás Lagoon save $$ with code KYANASUE

I’m truly a sucker for a group trip. My entire life, the most memorable trips have been with groups. The friends you adventure with are unlike any other people in your life. The bonds go deep and stories literally last forever. You can’t convince me the best conversations come after a day of trying new things together 🫶🏽

This hike is in the highlands of Iceland from Landmannalaugar to Thormsork. It’s 34 miles (55km) long with 1600 ft (500m) of elevation. You can do it anywhere from 2-4 days depending on how far you want to go each day.

There are 6 total campsites along the way with sleeping huts, cooking areas, toilets, and even warm showers. There are a lot of logistics in planning this one especially since you have to arrange shuttles to and from the start and end and carry all your food on the trail. It can be overwhelming to plan alone so there are group hiking trips with if you don’t want to stress about the logistics.

This was truly the most beautiful hike I’ve completed in Iceland, the weather can make it brutal but WOW it’s gorgeous and unlike any part of Iceland I’ve seen before. It’s only possible to hike this trail from June 25-Sept 15.
