Ó! Iceland’s Winter Wildlife is Beautiful!

Winter reveals a quieter side of Iceland, one where wildlife moves carefully through snow, wind, and long nights. You will spot Icelandic horses standing strong against the elements, or sheep roaming freely across open land. Out at sea, humpback whales surface in cold waters, and if you’re truly lucky, killer whales may pass through, powerful and elusive.

Some animals are harder to find. Reindeer roam only in remote parts of the country, Arctic foxes keep well hidden, and orcas don’t appear on command. These are shy, wild animals and that’s exactly how it should be.

At Holiday Tours, we observe from a distance, respect their space, and never interfere with their natural behavior. Because Iceland’s wildlife isn’t here for us. We’re just visitors in their world.

Vá! Explore Sólheimajökull With Those Who Know It Best.

A glacier isn’t a place you explore on your own, it’s a place you explore with someone who truly understands it.

On our Sólheimajökull glacier hike, our expert guides know exactly where it’s safe to walk, where the ice opens into deep crevasses, and where the glacier reveals its most striking shapes.

As you move across the ice, you’ll hear how this glacier was formed, how it’s changing, and why it looks the way it does today. And in between, don’t be surprised if your guide shares a few Icelandic tales passed down through generations — stories that make the ice feel even more alive.

This is adventure guided by experience, knowledge, and respect for the glacier.

Gunnuhver

Gunnuhver is a highly active and dramatic geothermal area on the southwestern tip of Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula, featuring massive steam vents and the country’s largest mud pool. Known for its intense 300°C+ temperatures and, uniquely, saltwater-based mud pools.

Situated in the Reykjanes UNESCO Geopark, about 30 minutes from Keflavík International Airport.

The area is home to a 20-meter-wide, vigorously boiling mud pool.

Unlike most, the groundwater here is seawater, which creates highly acidic, colorful mineral deposits.

Gunnuhver - It is named after a 400-year-old ghost, Gunna, who was trapped in the hot springs by a priest.

It is crucial to stay on marked, wooden boardwalks due to the dangerous temperatures (>300°C or 570F)

Open all year-round.

Visitors can witness the immense, roaring steam and feel the raw power of the earth from established observation platforms.

Ó! February in Iceland. What It’s Really Like.

February is winter at its purest. Cold, crisp, and beautifully unpredictable. One moment you’ll have soft winter light over snow-covered landscapes, the next the wind picks up and the weather reminds you who’s in charge.

Daylight slowly returns this time of year, giving you more time to explore glaciers, waterfalls, and volcanic landscapes, while the long evenings are perfect for Northern Lights hunting.

Roads can be icy and conditions change fast, which is why good planning, warm layers, and local knowledge make all the difference.

It’s a month made for adventure, contrast, and quiet moments in big landscapes as long as you’re prepared.

Vá! Some Places Don’t Ask for Words.

Standing in front of a glacier has a way of quieting everything. The noise fades, time slows, and for a moment, it’s just you and something that has existed long before us and will keep changing long after.

Glaciers remind us how small we are, and how powerful nature can be at the same time.
Not everything needs to be rushed, explained, or captured.
Some moments are meant to be felt. Slowly, silently, and fully.

Vá! Snæfellsnes, Where Iceland Shows Everything at Once.

If you had one day to see it all, this would be it. The Snæfellsnes Peninsula feels like Iceland in miniature. Dramatic, quiet, wild, and endlessly surprising.

You’ll start at Kirkjufell, rising sharply from the landscape and changing character with every step around it. From there, the road leads to Ingjaldshólskirkja, one of Iceland’s oldest churches, standing calmly against wind and time.

Next, you head underground into Vatnshellir Cave, a lava tube formed thousands of years ago. Dark, raw, and deeply Icelandic. Back above ground, the cliffs of Arnarstapi bring crashing waves, seabirds, and coastal drama, before ending at the quiet beauty of Búðakirkja, surrounded by lava fields and open space.

One peninsula. Countless moods.

Experience Snæfellsnes for yourself — head to our website, link in bio.
