Another picture from above shows the white vastness of the biggest ice cap in Europe and little humans for scale. Crossing various crevasse fields in different weather conditions might be challenging. When the weather finally plays in our favor, we can relax and have some photos done. Crossing Vatnajökull is a dream for most outdoor freaks in Iceland; some of them already have done it, few are still waiting to overcome obstacles such as unpredictable weather, insufficient knowledge or just lacking a good team that you trust. I am so grateful that we dared to try with .dera0 and Marco. Having enough resources to be able to enjoy this endless and peaceful white wonderland. Despite the fact that we haven’t reached our goal due to weather conditions, we will try again next year, even more excited.

Summertime in Iceland offers a unique experience, distinct from other places. Let's bring few memories of that trip we made to this area. In this image, you can see multiple volcanic craters, captured in the largest black sand desert in Iceland, situated north of Vatnajökull. The harsh conditions here have led to specialized flora and fauna, creating a remarkable ecosystem. The vastness of the landscape can be truly overwhelming, inviting exploration and contemplation.

Endless sunset on laugavegur hiking trail, during midnight sun night. Diverse landscape that changes every few kilometers. We could experience transitions between colorful rhyolite mountains, lava fields, moss covered green valleys and glaciers in the background. Each step brings new experience that is emphasized with unique landscape available only during the short Icelandic summer.

End of our hike this cute three-legged arctic fox welcomed us in his home-þórsmörk, which is knows for having quite big population. In the winter, their fur is white to blend in with the snow, and in the summer, it changes to brown or gray to match the tundra's colors. Arctic foxes are perfect examples of adaptation to one of the harshest environments on Earth, which makes them one of few native species in Iceland.

Dyrhólaey provides a unique opportunity to witness the charming puffins in their natural habitat while enjoying some of Iceland's most iconic and beautiful landscapes. It is just 5 minute detour from the main road number 1. For the best viewing experience, visit early in the morning or late in the evening when the puffins are most active. At the moment the area is closed overnight due to birds nesting until late June, but they can still be spotted during the day.
