🎣 Another season comes to an end at Long Valley Lodge
The lodge is now closed for the season, and what a season it has been.
First of all, a huge thank you to our wonderful guests who joined us this summer. We would also like to thank our amazing lodge staff and guide team. Their hard work, knowledge and good spirit are what make Long Valley Lodge such a special place.
The Blanda stayed low and clear for most of the season, with no major glacial melt disturbing the fishing. The salmon fishing was fantastic, with good runs of fish and some seriously impressive salmon landed.
Brown trout fishing on the Blanda was very good early in the season. It slowed down in mid and late July, but we continued to catch fish through the summer. Arctic char fishing was consistent, with regular catches throughout the season.
The Sea Pool was once again the most reliable place for sea run brown trout and sea run Arctic char. By late July, we also started seeing them farther up the Blanda and in its tributaries.
Our Blanda float trips produced some spectacular fishing this year. We now operate three NRS rafts on the river, and brown trout, Arctic char and salmon were all caught from the boats.
The Upper Svartá produced some beautiful brown trout early in the season, followed by huge numbers of sea run Arctic char later in the summer. The Lower Svartá offered good trout and char fishing throughout the season, with the first salmon arriving in mid July.
The North Highlands came alive from mid July, producing some lovely resident brown trout and Arctic char until the end of the season. We also spent more time fishing the Kolka, which produced fantastic fishing from mid July. Several grand slams were recorded there, although sea run Arctic char were by far the most abundant catch.
As always, the Icelandic weather gave us a bit of everything. The good, the bad and the ugly. It was all part of another unforgettable summer at Long Valley Lodge.
We are already taking bookings for 2027, and many dates are filling quickly. If you are thinking about joining us, get in touch soon and we will help you find the right dates and fishing program.
For now, here is a big collection of photos from the season. Thank you to everyone who was part of it. We hope to see many of you again next year.
