Hey everyone! I’m Monica, lead guide at Amarok Adventures. Today I’d like to show you the wonders of Baffin Island through some of my photos from last year.
Baffin isn’t one of those places that gently introduces itself. It throws you straight into a big mix of massive granite walls, glaciers pouring down into valleys, rivers that change every day, and a landscape so vast that distances completely mess with your brain.
The Akshayuk Pass cuts through the heart of Auyuittuq National Park, “the land that never melts”, and follows roughly 97 km through one of the wildest corners of the Canadian Arctic. There’s no neat trail to follow for much of the route. Some days are spent hopping over endless boulders, crossing glacial rivers, and carrying everything you need on your backpack. You live out there, camping beneath mountains like Mt. Thor and Mt. Asgard, with nothing around except rock, ice, water, and a whole lot of space.
And honestly, that’s what I love about it. It feels less like hiking and more like stepping into a place that doesn’t care whether we’re there or not. You stop thinking about emails, schedules, and whatever was happening back home. Life gets pretty simple out there: walk, eat, cross freaking cold rivers, set up camp, share stories about our day and be ready for the next challenge.
Check here some moments from last summer, and hopefully they’ll give you a little glimpse of what life looks like out in the raw Arctic.
And if you dare, join me this summer for a lifetime adventure! 🙌
