Every November, the Icelandic Search and Rescue Association (Slysavarnafélagið Landsbjörg / ICE-SAR) holds its annual Neyðarkall fundraiser. Volunteers sell the small, keychain “Neyðarkall” figure to support local rescue teams’ equipment and training. A larger version of the figure is also offered to companies that wish to contribute.

Summer is here and the Lupine 🪻 blossom's

The kind of Lupine that grows in Iceland is the Alaskan Lupine and it's not native to Iceland.
Every single Lupine plant in the country is here because of one person.

In 1945, a committee was set up to revegetate areas of Iceland. A representative of the committee, Hákon Bjarnason, travelled to Alaska to select plants he thought would do well in the harsh Icelandic landscape.

On November 3, 1945, he arrived home with his collection of seeds, and the story of the Lupine began.

As pretty as Lupine is, it's aggressive and spreads easily, stirring up a bit of trouble in areas it was never planted.
