About the firts settlers of Iceland were written stories. They had to overcome some opsticles. This is one of many and are still oblicated to read at our schools. This is one of them the one that has been considered the most political one. The horse place a big part of each story and these stories hold the evidence of how our society was born. And of course the horse plays a big role in each one. I would reccomment you would read one, if you can.

When it was forbidden by law to eat horsemeat simply because it was considered a sacred animal because that was how people travelled around here over the highlands to meet up at congress at Þingvellir to be able to keep a domocratic society. Thats way its still possible to travel on a horse trhoughout Iceland because these 1000 years old routes are still open and by law cannot be closed despite we travel through private owned land at times these old routes are above private property. We are proud of our horse and you keep the legend alive.
